I am a terrible sleeper, namely because I love being awake! I could lie for hours after most normal people have turned everything off. I love the silence but could be listening to music, writing, reading or just making endless cups of tea while I scroll through Pinterest. I am perpetually over-stimulated and as a result, I can wake up numerous times in the night and just think….Yes think! With an bed time of 1:30am and an alarm time of 5:30am, my typical nights sleep is around 4 hours!
In moments of continuous insomnia, I have visited the GP for sleeping pills. Wow…not the best medicine? I have tried lavender on my pillow, peppermint or chamomile tea, sleeping with windows open, sock on and sock off, hot water bottles 365 days of the year, no tech before bed, yada yada yada; Then I had a light-bulb moment and considered the air in my room.
I did a little research and found that a simple dehumidifier could actually create a more restful environment, by taking moisture out of the air which in turn aided my breathing. Of other benefits a dehumidifier could actually reduce humidity levels, making your home less hospitable to allergens such as dust mites, mould, and mildew. The results was that I actually started to really experience better sleep.
