The key to travelling light is this? Pack your suitcase and then unpack half of it before you leave the house! Sounds insane but the few recent trips I have taken have allowed me to see that this is, in fact, the best course of action to take when travelling for 1 week or less.

My advice is to follow the 1 week rule and pack only 1 of everything you plan to take.

1 good hat in-case you are unfortunate enough to have a bad hair day!

1 jumpsuit/boiler suit to travel in, mountain climb in, camel ride in, dine in, blah, blah, blah…..

1 pair of towel slippers,

1 vest top,

1 pretty kaftan-type throw over,

1 t-shirt,

1 pair of leggings,

1 pair of trainers,

1 day-night dress (preferably in a light fabric of chiffon or cotton),

1 pair of sunglasses,

1 swimsuit,

1 small travel candle,

1 pair of comfortable travel shoes (if you are travelling from somewhere cold to somewhere hot then bare in mind that when you get back the weather may be even colder than when you left?) I advise UGGs or Pegia’s.

1 powerful little sound system for an afternoon on the beach, by the pool or an evening on your hotel balcony (Go with the Mifa range as they are cheap and have great sound quality. Also on a recent trip to San Sebastian my luggage was ransacked by airport staff and my Mifa was painless to replace).

1 sturdy ‘Neverfull’ style handbag that can fit anything in. My Tods Ivy Sacca Media shoulder bag (which retailed at $1495) was a ‘shady’ purchase from ROKIT Camden for £45 and I wouldn’t travel with anything else.

Finally 1 small cross-body (if you are planning anything active while you are away).

Top it off with a light-weight pashmina/blanket/head-wrap/scarf.

Believe it or not when I left the house my little 45ltr Travelpro was half empty and ready for my impulse holiday splurges!

Another benefit is that heaven forbid your luggage goes missing, you won’t have that much to worry about! Bon Voyage! x
